San Lameer

Geography
Located on the beautiful Hibiscus Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, San Lameer is situated just off the N2 Highway, about 160km from Durban International Airport and minutes away from Margate, which also has its own airport. For those traveling from Gauteng, the drive should take about 8 hours.

History
This private coastal estate, well known for its lovely year-round tropical climate, stunning beaches, and picturesque rolling green hills, is without a doubt one of South Africa's most popular holiday destinations. Originally called Langeler Park, after the colonel who improved and extended the area and planted much of the magnificent exotic vegetation, his trust stipulated that any new owner after his death should continue with his nature conservation drive. Sanlam bought the land in 1974 and proceeded to develop the area in strict terms of the trust and guided by several conservation studies. Proclaimed as a township in 1977, only 40% could be developed while the remaining 60% was to be left in its natural state. This has meant that San Lameer retains its natural beauty and offers breath-taking scenery and wonderful seclusion and tranquility.

Science & Nature
Every aspect of San Lameer suggests its dedication to nature, and even the design philosophy behind the villas has been to make them a harmonious part of the environment. Regarded as a nature reserve, there is a conservation programme in place which protects a rare mangrove swamp, home to snake lilies and wild frangipani. the conservancy incorporates three main vegetation categories, namely dine, forest and grassland.

Entertainment
San Lameer has a lovely white beach, protected by shark nets and lifeguards, on duty. The palm-fringed beach, which stretches for over a kilometer, has been awarded Blue Flag status, and also features a tidal swimming pool. There is comprehensive security at the estate, making it safe for kids to run around and for the parents to enjoy their holiday with peace of mind. For those looking for a touch of glitz, the Wild Coast Casino is a mere 20 minute drive away. At San Lameer itself, there is a fully licensed restaurant, a ladies' bar, a boutique and an exclusive art gallery. There is also a superette which sells basic items. Relax at one of the pools or go for a long walk along the estate paths.

Sport
Golfers will be excited to know that there is an 18-hole championship golf course and club house, as well as a 9-hole mashee course.
